“Taming the Lions”…
It was back to league business for the two sides following a rather lack lustre cup campaign, as Wyddn hosted Red Lion at Brookhouse.
The game kicked off with early Wyddn dominance, producing good saves from the Lions keeper. The building pressure resulted in a deserved Wyddn lead as Jed Murphy fired a shot at goal, only for it to hit centre forward George Gill in the knee giving the keeper no chance as it rolled into the opposite corner. 1-0 to a pumped up Wyddn.
The second half saw the hosts slowly get a foot into the game producing some shots of their own – none to trouble Paddy Gill in goal looking for his 4th clean sheet in Wyddn colours. Pot shots from Tom Jones tested the Lion’s keeper and a Myles Barton strike drifted just wide with his weaker foot. An uncharacteristic Dom Holt free kick also sailed over the bar. Late pressure from visitors was met with fantastic defensive efforts from the back four with headed clearances from Joe Jones and Tom Edwards. Two great saves late of from Paddy Gill secured the 1-0 win as the full time whistle was blown.
A fantastically fought win and a 4th clean sheet of the season will surely drive a late charge up the table.
